A frantic end to a soporific transfer window

The title says it all. For someone who was waiting to see more action offfield by managers than by players on the World cup turf, it was a major disappointment. The hype generated by tabloids only increased the disappointment. Except for Chelsea's mint and the coffers of Messrs.,Catennachio company by Capello and Calderon, we could hardly see clubs in action.

However, an anti-climax was awaiting in the form of some relief and shocks on the dying minutes.

What were Tevez and Mascherano thinking? The question should be rather what were MSI and Joorabchain thinking? If someone wanted to know who are Chelsea's and Roman's equivalents in South America, "the answer is out there. Follow the Rabbit." In fact, people may feel compelled to concur with so many tabloid reporters saying how Russia has the remote control over Corinthians' operations. Chelsea are in no position to accommodate two rising stars, what with Mourinho already grappling to appease his English equivalent of 'Galacticos' by trying some weird combinations. Surely, 'Chelski' wouldn't have wanted any European giant to lay their hands on these Argentines. So Russian Roubles must've prevented them from moving into more ambitious clubs to nullify the competition, which has been non-existent for the past two seasons in England.

Another testimony to Mourinho's policy of "Do any crap to avoid enemy strengthening himself" was the fact that he was furious at Kenyon for allowing Gallas to go on the swap.Neither does he allow him to move, nor does he allow him to play. A seasoned campaigner like Gallas doesn't deserve such treatment. And I feel Mourinho has no rights to slam Domenech for treating Makelele like a slave. Because he's been doing exactly the same with Gallas. However, I must admit that Wenger has been trumped for once by Kenyon's shrewd mind. 5 million + Gallas for one of the bets English talents!!!

And another protracted transfer saga involving "loyalty-personified, lion-hearted" Reyes and Baptista came to an end. Reyes has chickened out to his homeland. Ever since the day he was kicked by Phil Neville, he must have been planning for this. Thank God, two disloyal gunners are gone. Wenger also seems to be tied down by lack of funds contrary to what Dein says. They had to sell to buy.

With such major changes, Arsenal should get strong defensively. Toure and Gallas!!!Mourinho must have been right.People like Hoyte only vindicate Wenger's anti-English policy. It wasn't his natural position. But when Flamini could, why can't he? Anywayz, hoping to see Liverpool and Arsenal pull up their socks, United to keep going strong and Chelsea to play like champions rather than be at the mercy of pathetic defending like that of Ooijer.

A bit too much activity in the transfer market for my liking this year. But in any case this would turn out to be one of the best transfer season I've ever seen.

"Chelsea to play like champions". I couldn't disagree with that more. I must say the stars have not been on fire lately. Look at Ballack against Blackburn. Look at Shev. Face the reality, what they did in other leagues, it cannot possibly be emulated in the EPL in just a matter of weeks.

And probably because of too much saga surrounding top notch players, many of the transfer prospects tend to be overshadowed. Take this guy for example: Jan Lastuvka. He's a great 'keeper, and has joined Fulham on a loan. What I'll say is to look out for him.

I agree with players needing time to settle in. But the fact remains that Mourinho didn't have to tinker with a well-oiled machinery, especially the midfield.

Let's face it. Serie-A and Bundesliga has lost so many players. But have all of them made a bee-line to England as hyped up by the tabloids? In fact EPL has lost a prolific goalscorer in Ruud and technically accomplished players like Pires and Gudjohnsen to La Liga. Not to mention the Juve refugees in Spain's arch rivals' roster.

The transfer activity has been more at certain periods of the entire window. But there are more players of moderate reputation signed by established clubs with the exception of Liverpool(Chelsea is obvious)

Nobody would expect Chelski to flop this season. Just look at the squad and you'll know, as you described as "a well-oiled machinery". To be a little pessimistic, there is almost no doubt the Blues will retain the title, again.

I like the way you commented about the "Juve refugees". Yes, many of them inevitably found themselves in the position of a dilemma, and most opted to move. But not Nedved, Buffon, and some other classy guys. They can easily command a place elsewhere yet they chose to offer their services. Still I think these players aren't really pleased with that choice.

Also, I am starting to agree that the Tevez/Mascherano saga is the works of Chelsea. And I can see that more people are buying into this theory than otherwise. At the end of the day, what Chelsea really want is: If I can't own them, so will others.

I expect the Argentine duo to put behind the awful display against Brazil and hit the ground running for West Ham so that Chelsea will make room for them next season. But i expect them to do a Crespo-Gallas combi after moving there so that the well-oiled machinery is disturbed.

hmmm....good to see ur post after a really long time...anyway, i think it will be tough for Mourinho to keep his stars happy throughout the season and there is a high chance that some ego problems might erupt. i just hope chelsea doesnt win any major trophies this season...i do not want to see money power triumph again!
